"It is God that worketh in you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure." If He does not, we are nothing. We can put on a good show, but it is only a show. It has no spiritual life or meaning. It is of the flesh. But God will not work in us unless we give ourselves WHOLLY to Him. Why should He? If we don't have enough affection or sense to do at least that much, why should He bother? There are countless millions of half-hearted "worshippers." He demands ALL the heart. He will not compete with rubbish for our affections. He will not share us with folly and the flesh. No true deep human relation can be built on divided affection: why expect a divine one to be? It has to be all or nothing. Only a fool would keep back part of the price in view of the greatness of the reward. God hath no pleasure in fools.
