PAGE 140 Nathanael Homes 1599-1678 An English west country man and a graduate of Exeter College, Oxford, Homes was deeply influenced by the teachings of the Brethren and forsook Calvinism for a more Biblical faith. He formed a group of independent, like-minded believers that bore no special name, and took care of one such assembly in Friday Street, London and later another in Dover. His abilities in Hebrew were highly respected. His two outstanding works were The New World and The Resurrection Revealed. His comprehension of the Promises to the fathers was sound enough even though in explaining them his language may seem a little quaint today (see HOMES ON THE PROMISES TO ABRAHAM). |
