May 26th -- 2 Timothy 2 The Messiah of Israel |

Sometimes ... preaching has been directed exclusively to the political aspect of the Kingdom and the prophecies surrounding it -- the "signs of the times." At times of crisis in the Middle East great excitement has been kindled, almost to the point where brethren have forgotten that the Divine purpose with Israel does not depend on the skill of her politicians nor the cunning of her commanders -- "not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts" (Zech. 4:6) -- and that if we were citizens of the modern Israeli state our very profession as Christadelphians would demand that we be conscientious objectors to the bearing of arms in her defence! Reaction to this attitude has tended to swing towards the opposite extreme. Abraham is rarely mentioned, the literal aspect of the Kingdom excluded, and the concepts of Christ as the Messiah of Israel, "of the seed of David according to my gospel" (2 Tim. 2:8), and of salvation being "of the Jews", have been lost sight of.
