February 15th -- Mark 11 THE POWER OF FAITH |
||||||||||||||
FAITH gives the power to accomplish the impossible. With solemn affirmation Jesus declared: "Amen, I say unto you, whoever says to this mountain, Be taken up and cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him." Jesus certainly did not mean that a man could satisfy his own caprice by using faith as a magical power, for it was strictly qualified as "faith in God". In the literal sense it would have been pointless to topple the mount on which they stood down into the Dead Sea which from its crest could be seen four thousand feet below in the Great Rift. For faith to be effective (as the context shows) it must fulfil two conditions -- conformity with God's purpose and harmony with Him in unbroken fellowship. L. G. SARGENT, The Gospel of the Son of God, pages 158-159
