THE FATHER AND THE SON

THERE was perfect unity between the Father and Jesus, but the latter was dependent upon the Father; he had knowledge of the Father's acts, and the Father's will was his guide. He had the most intimate relationship with the Father, who made full disclosure to him of His purpose. The Son "sees"; the Father "shows"; and they are knit together in love. And "greater things" are in store, which will cause them (the Jews) to marvel with fear and astonishment (verses 19, 20).
This fear will be felt when, raised from the dead, they stand before Jesus as their judge. He proceeds to speak of this. The ultimate source of resurrection power is of God, but He has commissioned the Son to exercise it, and also to act as judge. The honour thus conferred by the Father requires that honour be given to the Son, to refuse which is to honour not God (verses 21-23).
