PURE FROM THE BLOOD OF ALL MEN

PAUL speaks again of his anxiety for the world and the faithful discharge of his responsibilities to it in Acts 20:18-20:"And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by lying in wait of the Jews: and how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house." The Apostle was driven by the need to warn men and women that he might be pure from the blood of all men, having faithfully discharged that commission which Ezekiel the prophet named when he said that the blood of those who perished would be upon his head if he should remain silent instead of witnessing. "Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men" (v.25). This is an individual responsibility. There are some, faithful and hard workers for the Lord. That is good. Many of us have failed; all of us fail in some respects. The reason that most of us fail is that we are too much part of the world and we cannot fulfil our responsibilities to the world if we are part of it.
