SOME theologians today talk about bringing down God from "up there" and making Him the ground of man's being "down here", as if God has always been confined to an austere role "up there". The Proverbs show us otherwise: "My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights." God is the same whether He is portrayed in the Old or the New Testament, hence the writer to the Hebrews dealing with the Fatherhood of God quotes this verse from The Proverbs.
