Introduction
(The Clapham Change)

Some time ago the Clapham or South London Ecclesia put in circulation a small booklet entitled, "Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage," but a better title would have been "Marriage and Remarriage, Divorce and Redivorce," because in every case where a brother or sister is guilty of the sin of divorce and remarriage, a redivorce-another putting away-a second infraction of the divine law against divorce, is demanded in order to qualify for re-fellowship. Without this second violation of God's law, in putting away, they claim repentance is of no avail and forgiveness is out of the question.

In this booklet the Clapham presiding brethren repudiate their former attitude towards this sin, as shown by letters herein published, and adopt a course that is at once unscriptural, ignoble and unmerciful and also subversive of former Christadelphian practice.

The ease and facility with which some can discard one religious theory and adopt another, just the reverse, shatters our confidence in the ability of such to "stand fast in the faith" (1 Cor. 16:13), and to "hold fast that which is good" (1 Thess. 5:21).

The former reasoning of our Clapham brethren of 1933, as given herein, should effectually dissipate this new unsavory and debasing crotchet, as it was so fittingly styled by our highly esteemed and honored brother-the late Frank G. Jannaway.
